Mk 2 Escort Group 4 rally car
We are pleased to announce our forthcoming exciting new 1/8th Ford Escort Mk 2 Group 4 Rally Car Model.
After extensive research involving studying various period Mk 2 Escort Rally cars, we will be shortly finishing our new 1/8th Model to the highest standards. Our 1/8th Gp 4 Escort is based on what we believe to be the only “original” Mk 2 Group 4 Ford Escort Rally car anywhere in the world, that is VLE 756X the Rothmans car built new in 1981 for Ari Vatanen to compete in that years RAC rally. Ari finished a superb 2nd O/A on the event, in so doing became World Rally Champion for 1981.
VLE 756X was then presented to the Beauleigh Motor Museum where it has been kept in original running condition ever since.
We have based our 1/8th model on this car, due to its unique period specification having not been modified to bring it in line with today’s historic Mk 2 Escorts which have a rightly deserved reputation as the most Exciting Rally car of all time.
If any of you have seen a BDA Escort at 9500rpm flat out in a forest, you will know why this reputation is so deserved.
Having owned and rallied one of these fantastic cars, also another Ex Rothmans Mk 2 Escort, DKP 191T, I can personally vouch that they are even more exciting to drive than they are to watch. Beautifully balanced, very forgiving, deceptively fast, and strong, it was an immense pleasure to drive and compete in.
DKP 191T might have been the most successful ex Rothmans Mk 2 Escort, winning as a Rothmans car in Ari Vatanens hands the 1981 Acropolis and 1000 lakes rally, and in my hands, 7 lesser rallys.
Today, DKP 191T is back in LHD and Rothmans colours and still being used. |
